All Scripture Is God-Breathed: Paul’s Charge to Timothy (2 Timothy 3–4)

Near the end of his race, Paul charges Timothy with Scripture’s nature and use:

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Deeper meaning

• God-breathed: the written word carries divine authority and life.
• Profitability is pastoral: it teaches, exposes, restores, and trains — so that the man of God may be complete (3:17).

Therefore: preach the word, in season and out of season (4:2). Paul sees a time when people will not endure sound teaching, collecting teachers to suit desires (4:3). The remedy is not novelty; it is fidelity.

As Paul faces pouring out, he confesses: “I have fought the good fight… Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness” (4:7–8). The deepest Paul is still the man living toward the appearing of the Lord.
