One Body, Many Members: Belonging in the Church by One Spirit

Paul’s body metaphor in 1 Corinthians 12 is not cute teamwork talk. It is a theology of belonging.

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13). Diversity of gifts is real; division of worth is forbidden.

• The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you” (12:21).
• Weaker members receive greater honor (12:22–24).
• If one member suffers, all suffer; if one is honored, all rejoice (12:26).

Charismata without love becomes noise (chapter 13). Love is not soft sentiment; it is the more excellent way that keeps power from becoming pride.
