Paul’s Thorn and Sufficient Grace: Power Perfected in Weakness

Paul begged three times for the thorn to be removed. Heaven answered differently:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Deeper meaning

The thorn (whatever it was) kept Paul from conceit after surpassing revelations (12:7). Weakness became the stage on which Christ’s power rested.

This reverses spiritual triumphalism. Paul will boast in weaknesses, insults, hardships (12:9–10). Not because pain is good, but because Christ is enough when strength is gone.

If your ministry requires you to appear unbroken, you may be preaching a different power than Paul knew.
